Jarred Brooks dethrones Joshua Pacio, wins ONE strawweight title

Jarred Brooks is the new ONE strawweight world champion following a unanimous decision nod over Joshua Pacio of Team Lakay in the main event of ONE 164 this Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Brooks stepped on the gas right off the bat and scored a takedown in his first attempt. While on the mat, the brash American unleashed ground and pound with bad intentions but Pacio maintained his composure.

Brooks did the same in round two but Pacio defended well from the takedown attempts. Pacio seemingly adapted to Brooks' game plan by round three, stopping takedown attempts and going to the body with punches and kicks.

Brooks circled the cage in round 4 while Pacio threw countershots to the head and body. Before the round ended, Brooks got hold of Pacio's neck from the back but was unable to make the Filipino tap. 

Pacio went to the head and body in round 5 making Brooks circle the cage before going for another takedown in the final minute. All three judges saw the fight for Brooks after three five-minute rounds, improving his record to 20-2.
