EJ Obiena beats Nilsen anew, sets meet record in Swiss tiff
Filipino pole vaulter and Olympian EJ Obiena topped another tournament, just a day after winning one in Liechtenstein.
Obiena on early Tuesday (Manila time) reigned supreme in the Gala dei Castelli tournament in Ticino, Switzerland.
The Asian record holder cleared 5.81 meters to top the tournament and set the meet record.
Obiena defeated world no. 2 and American Chris Nilsen again after the latter cleared 5.71 meters. French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie settled for third due to countback after his 5.71-meter clearance.
The Filipino pole vaulter tried to make it to 5.95 meters but failed in three attempts.
Obiena has been on a roll lately with his podium finishes and even defeated Armand Duplantis in the Brussels leg of the Diamond League on September 3.
