EJ Obiena beats Duplantis to rule Brussels leg of Diamond League
Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena achieved a great feat early Saturday (Manila time) as he defeated world no. 1 Armand Duplantis in the Brussels leg of the Diamond League.
Obiena cleared 5.91 meters in three attempts to rule the tournament, which Duplantis was not able to match. The Olympic gold medalist settled for second in the tournament with 5.81 meters.
World no. 2 Chris Nilsen, meanwhile, finished third with 5.71 meters.
In a post, Obiena said he 'made a core memory' from his first win in the Diamond League.
Obiena has been winning tournamenst in the past weeks, with the most recent in St. Wendel City.
In an episode of "Surprise Guest with Pia Arcangel," Obiena shared some stories on his interactions with fellow pole vaulters like Duplantis.
