EJ Obiena snatches another gold in Germany
EJ Obiena continued to roll in the second part of his season, taking home another gold medal in Germany as he ruled the St. Wendel City Jump on early Thursday (Manila time).
The Filipino pole vault ace cleared 5.86 meters to dominate the field while also resetting the tournament record, which was previously at 5.71 meters.
Obiena, who has been reinstated to the national team recently, tried to go for 6.0m but committed three faults to settle at 5.86m.
The 26-year-old athlete was just coming off a gold medal finish last week in Germany as well, vaulting to 5.81 meters to rule the event.
"Third attempt on opening height made this competition even more breathtaking. As always the competition atmosphere was amazing and thank you for having me," Obiena said in a Facebook post.
The world no. 3 Obiena will be back in action on September 2 for the Memorial van Damme. He is also set to test his mettle at the ISTAF in Berlin and Golden Fly on the 4th and 11th, respectively. — LA, GMA News
