EJ Obiena on reinstatement to nat'l team: Long awaited and just decision
After the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced on Wednesday that Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena has been reinstated to the national team, the World Athletics bronze medalist said the decision was "long awaited and just."
"This was a long awaited and just decision; and one in the best interests of Philippine sport," Obiena wrote in a social media post. "It’s also a decision that is congruent with the values and principles of the Olympic Spirit. Now, I look forward as I work tirelessly to bring more glory to our beloved Philippines!"
The World No. 3 in pole vault also thanked his mother organization, the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) and the PSC for reinstating him to the national team.
"Whilst I shall properly leave the past in the past; I believe the facts have spoken. The Commission on Audit has spoken. My fellow countrymen have spoken. And my team and I have proven our dedication with our performances on the world stage and a first-ever World Championships medal," he wrote.
Obiena was removed by PATAFA from the national team pool after allegations of misusing allowance allotted to him. However, the Commission on Audit recently reported that Obiena did not misuse the aid given to him by the government.
The PSC said Obiena's reinstatement will take effect this month. -- BAP, GMA News
