Philippines finishes 5th at 2022 Softball Senior League World Series

After faltering in the quarterfinals, Team Philippines, bannered by players from Bacolod City National High School, concluded their campaign on a winning note with a close 6-5 win against USA West (California) in the consolation round of the 2022 Softball Senior League World Series in Sussex County, Delaware.

The Negrense Senior League Team saved their best performance for last, completing a comeback after trailing 5-4 on top of the 6th to secure a 5th place finish in the tournament.

Allan Pomada, principal of BCNHS, was proud of the exploits of his students and expressed gratitude to the people who helped bring the high school team overseas.

"Winning the 5th place in the world series is one thing that we can be proud of. Despite the challenges and obstacles being hurdled by these players in going to the US, they were still able to make it," he told GMA News Online.

"The whole BCNHS community is grateful to all who had helped and facilitated the participation of our players especially the Province of Negros Occidental and all our supporters."

The team opened the tournament with back-to-back wins, including an impressive 9-0 shutout of USA East, before dropping their last 2 games in pool play.

The Filipinas qualified for the quarterfinals but fell to USA Southeast as the Americans exploded for 5 runs on top of the 4th to turn a 1-1 deuce into a 6-1 lead that they held on the rest of the way.

The team was led by Head Coach Lizvi Jalandoni, Assistant Coach Ezra Jalandoni and Tony Agustin of the Negros Occidental provincial government.
