Adesanya beats Cannonier to retain UFC middleweight title, Volkanovski wins Holloway trilogy
UFC middleweight world champion Israel Adesanya made yet another successful defense of his title following a one-sided unanimous decision win over Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC 276 this Sunday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.
Adesanya, 32, opened the five-round contest with kicks and punches to the head and body. Cannonier pressed forward but was unable to land a telling blow to earn the respect of the defending champion.
Adesanya mixed his strikes in round two, landing his shots while switching stances to further confuse his foe. Cannonier looked to land counter-punches in round 3 but had a hard time finding the slick Adesanya.
Behind on the scorecards, Cannonier fought with little urgency in rounds 4 and 5. Adesanya was happy to circle the cage and land his shots, dancing his way up to the final bell. All three judges saw the fight for Adesanya after five rounds. The scorecards were 49-46, 49-46 and 50-45.

In the co-main event, UFC lightweight world champion Alexander Volkanovski had put a decisive end to his rivalry with ex-titleholder Max Holloway following a lopsided unanimous decision.
The 33-year-old Volkanovski looked one step ahead throughout the fight as he landed quick punches to outstrike the latter. The former champ looked in shape but simply had no to the puzzle that is Volkanovski.
