Philippines concludes Vietnam SEA Games at fourth place
The Philippines closed out the 31st Southeast Asian Games one place short of its goal, finishing fourth overall in the Games hosted by Vietnam from May 12 to 23.
The country copped 52 gold medals, 70 silver, and 104 bronze behind overall champion in host Vietnam, which tallied 446 medals highlighted by a whopping 205 gold alongside 125 silver and 116 bronze.
Thailand came in second with 92 gold, 103 silver, and 136 bronze while Indonesia cemented its ranking at third spot with 69 gold, 91 silver, and 81 bronze.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) initially projected a third place finish for the country.
Meanwhile, with several athletes bound for or already at home, PSC commissioner and chef de mission Ramon Fernandez will represent the Philippine delegation in the closing rites at the My Dinh National Stadium later today.
"This was an enlightening and educational experience for yours truly. We fought as one and won as one! Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino!" Fernandez said.
