Hidilyn Diaz wins gold anew in Hanoi SEA Games

Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz proved that she is unstoppable as she added another medal to her collection.

On Friday, the Philippines' first Olympic gold medalist ruled the women's weightlifting 55 kg event to win a gold medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Diaz lifted a total of 206 kg in the event after getting 92 kg in snatch and 114 kg in clean and jerk. She attempted to set a new SEA Games record at 121 kg for clean and jerk, but failed to do so.

She broke the previous SEA Games record she held for snatch at 91 kg, but was later broken by another weightlifter.

Diaz competed against five lifters, including Thailand's Sanikun Tanasan who was a gold medalist from the 2016 Rio Olympics, although in a lighter weight class.

This is her second gold medal in the biennial meet after getting one in the 2019 edition held in the Philippines. She also bagged silver medals from the 2011 and 2013 edition, and a bronze in 2007 in Thailand.
