Eric Cray asserts supremacy in men's 400m hurdles, wins another gold medal


Eric Cray is back on top.

The Filipino-American trackster ruled the men's 400m hurdles finals after tallying the fastest time of 50.41 to deliver another gold for the Philippines at the 31st SEA Games on Tuesday at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

This will be Cray's fifth straight title for the said event after previously dominating the discipline in 2019 as well as in the 2013, 2015, and 2017 editions of the biennial meet.

Vietnam's Lich Quach Cong settled for silver while Singapore's Jun Jie Calvin Quek picked up the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, another athletics bet in Robyn Brown took the bronze medal in the women's 400-meter hurdles as well with a time of 56.44 seconds. Vietnam's Lan Quach Thi and Huyen Nguyen Thi registered 56.33 seconds and 56.41 seconds to grab the gold and silver medal, respectively.

William Morrison also finished with a bronze after winding up third in the men's discus throw with 50.44 points. Malaysia's Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin tallied 58.26 to seize the gold while Thailand's Bandit Singhatongkul settled for silver with 51.18.

Mark Harry Diones claimed the silver medal in men's triple jump with a score of 15.87, just behind gold medalist Andre Anura Anuar of Malaysia who tallied 16.51. Vietnam's Duc Nguyen Thuong settled for bronze with his 15.84 output.

Another Filipina athletics ace in Sarah Dequinan gave the country a silver medal after she finished second in the women's heptathlon. Vietnam's Giang Hoang Thanh and Malaysia's Norliyana Kamaruddin received the gold and bronze medals, respectively.
