Fennel Adversity, RRQ to represent PHL in Wild Rift Champions Southeast Asia Finals
Two teams from the Philippines have qualified for the Wild Rift Champions Southeast Asia (WCS) Finals which will be held from April 23 to May 8.
FENNEL Adversity and RRQ Philippines earned their spots among 11 teams in the region for a chance to qualify for the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship this year.
Among the other teams qualified were:
Masters - Flash Wolves, ONE team
Indonesia - Persis Esports
Malaysia/Singapore - SEM9
Oceania - Smash Logic Gaming
Thailand - EVOS Esports, Buriram United Esports
Vietnam - Team Flash, Cerberus Esports
The WCS Finals series will start on Friday with the play-ins extended until April 25, instead of the previous two-day schedule.
Fennel Adversity will be a Play-in participant while RRQ Philippines already advanced to the Playoffs.
In the Play-in phase, five teams from the WCS and Wild Rift Oceania Championships tournaments (1st runner ups from WCS Masters, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, and the champion of Wild Rift Oceania Championships) will play a single round-robin tournament where every team will play each other in a best-of-3 series.
The top team among the five will directly qualify to the playoffs, while the second and third seed will play in a best-of-five for the remaining playoffs spot.
The two teams who advanced from the Play-ins will meet the six sub-regional champions of the Wild Rift Champions SEA and will compete in a double elimination format in the Playoffs stage.
The eight teams will be split into two pools of four teams with the first pool consisting of the sub-regional champions of WCS Masters, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, the second pool will consist of the sub-regional champions of WCS Malaysia & Singapore, Indonesia along with the two qualified teams from the Play-ins stage. Teams from the same sub-regions cannot be drawn against each other.
The playoff matches will see teams from the first pool drawn to play against teams from the second pool.
Winners of the first playoff matches will advance to the upper bracket while the defeated teams will drop into the lower bracket. All matches will be played in a Best-of-5 format with the exception for the Lower Bracket Finals and Grand Finals, which will be played in a Best-of-7 format.
The top four teams will represent Southeast Asia and book their spots in the Wild Rift Icons Global Championship taking place in Europe later this year.
Wild Rift is also part of the events which will be played in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.
