Bren scores biggest upset of the season after sweeping Echo
Bren Esports looked to have regained their lethal form as they took down another powerhouse with a 2-0 sweep of Echo in Week 5 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 9 on Saturday.
It was Bren's second win against top tier teams this season after also taking down MLBB Southeast Asian champions Omega Esports.
The M2 world champions now hiked their total to five points after suffering from six losses in the first half of the season. Echo, meanwhile, suffered from their second loss in the last three games but still leads the pack with 18 points.
Echo opted for a surprising Fanny jungler pick in Game 1, KarlTzy's first with the hero this season, but Bren managed the jungle superbly. Better early game skirmishes culminated in a 9th minute clash where the M2 kings scored a 3-0 wipe to take a 6k gold lead.
With continuous disruption on Fanny's jungle, Bren easily imposed their will on the way to a comfortable win by the 16th minute.
Vincent "Joy Boy" De Guzman's (Chou) peskiness was in full display as he finished with a 3-4-11 while Marco "SUPER MARCO" Stephen (Clint) lorded over the gold lane with a 6-1-8 KDA, conceding his only death during the final minute.
Game 2 was a different story marked by multiple momentum swings as Echo mounted a comeback, taking two consecutive pick offs in the midgame to negate a 6k early game gold deficit and take the luminous lord at the 12th minute.
But Bren was not to be outdone as SUPER MARCO (Harith) scored a double kill in a 14th minute counter that led to a 3-1 exchange, putting the game to a stand still.
SUPER MARCO again scored a double kill in a 17th minute clash that finally took the fight out of Echo. He finished with a commanding 9-2-7 KDA.
