Asa Miller on second DNF in 2022 Winter Olympics: 'I have fault also'

Asa Miller, the lone Philippine bet in the 2022 Winter Olympics, was met with another misfortune as he recorded his second DNF (did not finish) in men's alpine skiing on Wednesday.

The two-time Olympian skied for 36 seconds before crashing out—more than twice the time he spent on the ice in the giant slalom at 15.90 seconds.

American coach Will Gregorak said his ward struggled with the snow, which was "a little uneven between being aggressive and icy in some spots."

"With this type of snow, the skis were not responding very well for him so it's very difficult to get his feeling on the skis and that's how it goes sometimes," Gregorak said.

"You hoped that it wouldn't happen in the Olympics, but that's ski racing and that's the nature of the sport, and that's slalom racing."

Miller, for his part, took responsibility for failing to deliver a good performance in Beijing.

"I have a fault also," said an emotional Miller.

The skier opened his campaign with a DNF when he slipped off the course in the giant slalom over the weekend.

Miller was not able to surpass his finish during his maiden Olympics appearance in the 2018 Pyeongchang, where he wound up 70th among 110 participants in giant slalom.
