Philippine swimming team to hold SEA Games qualifying tournament

The Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI) is set to hold a national team tryout to determine the country's representatives for the upcoming Vietnam Southeast Asian Games in May 2022 and other future competitions.

The swimming body on Wednesday said it is staging the 2022 PSI National Open (PNO) from February 25 to 27 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex swimming pool, which was recently opened to national athletes by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

PSI said the competition will strictly be under a full bubble format to ensure everyone's safety.

Last October, PSI also held a national team selection bubble at the New Clark City Aquatics Center in Capas, Tarlac. The successful applicants earned a crack at representing the country in the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships 2021 last December and the 19th FINA World Championships in May.

The Philippine swimming team will try to build on their momentum from the 2019 SEA Games, where Filipino tankers bagged a total of 16 medals. James Deiparine led the country's campaign after he took home the gold medal in the men's 100m breastroke. — LA, GMA News
