Former UFC featherweight world champion Max Holloway was forced out of his trilogy bout against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 272, according to a report by ESPN.
Holloway, who holds a mixed martial arts record of 23-6, is coming off two straight wins following his back-to-back losses against the reigning champion Volkanovski.
“After aggravating a prior injury, Max Holloway was forced to withdraw from the trilogy fight with Volkanovski slated at UFC 272, sources confirmed to Brett Okamoto,” ESPN reported on Instagram.
The 30-year-old Holloway, considered by many as one of the greatest featherweights of all time, lost his then title to Volkanovski by unanimous decision at UFC 245 in December 2019.
A rematch took place seven months later in the co-main event of UFC 251 where Volkanovski escaped with a highly disputed split decision nod.
The UFC is yet to make an official announcement surrounding Holloway’s injury.
