Kingad, Belingon, fall short at ONE: Winter Warriors II
Danny Kingad of Baguio City’s Team Lakay suffered the third setback of his mixed martial arts career following a unanimous decision loss at the hands of former ONE flyweight world champion Kairat Akhmetov in the main event of ONE: Winter Warriors II this Friday evening in Singapore.
Kingad, 26, was never allowed by Akhmetov to get his rhythm going as the latter took the fight to the mat as early as round one. Kingad landed strikes here and there when on their feet, but Akhmetov’s takedowns and ground and pound proved too much for Kingad.
After three five-minute rounds, all three judges saw the fight for Akhmetov. He improved his professional MMA record to 25-2 while Kingad dropped to 14-3.
Former ONE bantamweight world champion Kevin Belingon, meanwhile, suffered his fourth consecutive defeat at the hands of hard-hitting South Korean Kwon Won Il.
The pair went toe-to-toe during the fight but a perfectly timed left hook to the body reduced Belingon to his knees. Down and unable to defend himself, the referee waved the contest at the 0:52 mark of round two.
