Figure skater Sofia Frank finishes 23rd in short program of Hungary tilt
Filipino-American figure skater Sofia Frank finished 23rd in the short program of the 15th Santa Claus Cup in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday (Manila time).
The 16-year-old skater fell on her triple lutz-triple toeloop combination and the triple flip, but nailed her double axel to score 42.97 in the short program.
Nina Pinzarrone of Belgium emerged at the top spot with 63.67 points while Sofya Chaplygina (62.11) and Iida Karhunen (61.44) were at second and third spots, respectively.
Frank, who was coming off a fifth place-finish in the 2021 Tallinn Trophy in Estonia last month, notched 24.09 in the technical element score while getting 20.88 in the program component score. She incurred 2.00 in deductions.
Her short program TES reached the minimum required for qualification to the 2022 Junior World Championships in March.
Frank continues her campaign on Friday in the free skate category.
