CHED inspects training facilities of NCAA schools, eyes bubble setup for sports practices
The Commission on Higher Education has started inspecting the training facilities of the NCAA schools ahead of the possible resumption of collegiate sports.
According to Cedric Castillo's report on "24 Oras," CHED is looking at a bubble concept to ensure the safety of student-athletes and coaches amid the pandemic.
The schools welcomed the development despite the challenges of strictly staying inside the bubble while training.
"Medyo mahirap lang pero sakripisyo lang kasi kailangan practice eh," said San Beda Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez.
"'Di baleng mahigpit but at least we know that the student athletes are safe," added Paul Supan, athletics director of Jose Rizal University.
Estefanio Boquiron, Dean for Student Affairs of the Emilio Aguinaldo College, said student-athletes will likely require around 10 weeks of practice and conditioning.
Meanwhile, CHED Executive Director Cinderella Jaro said the safety measures will follow further directives from the government to contain the omicron variant.
The National Capital Region is currently under Alert Level 2, which allows limited face-to-face classes for higher education institutions.
