SEA Games gold medalist Jamie Lim crashes out of karate world championships

Filipina karateka Jamie Lim bowed out of contention in the women's -61-kilogram division in the 2021 WKF Senior World Championship in Dubai on Thursday.

Lim, a 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, fell prey to Lynn Snell of the Netherlands in the repechage round via a majority decision loss, which formally knocked down her shot at a podium finish.

Despite the loss, Lim still made great impressions in her world stage debut held in Dubai.

En route to the repechage, Lim bested Russian Alana Kochieva in the opening round before defeating Laura Sivert of France and Sarara Shimada of Japan in rounds two and three respectively.

She, however, fell to Anita Serogina of Ukraine in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, 1-2.

Meanwhile, Filipino-Japanese karateka and 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Junna Tsukii also made an early exit in the female kumite -50kg event on Wednesday.

She fell to Uzbekistan's Bakhriniso Babaeva in the second round and failed to book a spot in the repechage.
