Junna Tsukii bows out of World Championships in Dubai

The Philippines' Junna Tsukii suffered an early exit in the 2021 WKF Senior World Championship in Dubai as the 30-year-old karateka bowed out in the female kumite -50kg event on Wednesday in Dubai.

The Filipino-Japanese star fell to Uzbekistan's Bakhriniso Babaeva in the second round, 2-3, to formally crash out of medal contention.

She also failed to book a spot in the repechage round which could have given her chance to finish in the podium.

Prior to that loss, Tsukii won a majority decision victory over Sara Radicevska of North Macedonia in the opening round.

Meanwhile, another Filipino will target at least a bronze medal finish as SEA Games champion Jamie Lim will see action in the women's -61kg repechage on Thursday. — LA, GMA News
