In-form Carlos Yulo advances to final round of 3 apparatus in gymnastics world championships
Carlos Yulo is well on his way to his world title defense after he advanced to the finals of floor exercise and two other apparatus in the 50th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Wednesday in Kitakyushu, Japan.
The Filipino gymnast scored a scintillating 15.166 in the qualification round of his pet floor event anchored on 6.600 in difficulty and 8.566 in execution to take over the top spot and grab a chance to retain the title he won in 2019.
He also took over the top spot in the parallel bars after he registered a sensational 15.566 finish (9.166 in execution and 6.400 difficulty).
Prior to that, the 21-year-old Olympian began his campaign on vault, notching 14.733 and 14.883 for an average of 14.808 to land at third spot.

Only the top eight gymnasts per apparatus secured a finals berth.
The finals for floor exercise is set on Saturday, October 23, while the championship round for vault and parallel bars are slated on Sunday, October 24.
Yulo is coming off a two medal-finish in the 2021 All-Japan Senior & Masters Gymnastics Championship in Yamagata last month, where he finished with bronze in vault and gold in the floor exercise.
