Echo secures playoff spot with sweep of Bren in final week of MPL PH S8 elims
Echo managed to snap their two-game losing skid, and in clutch fashion, via a 2-0 sweep of Bren Esports to secure their slot in the playoffs in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 8 on Saturday.
The win ended Echo's regular season campaign with 19 points, just enough to provide some space against Bren and TNC Pro Team whose maximum possible points are at 17 and 14, respectively.
Echo pulled ahead right away in Game 1 as they established a 2k gold lead courtesy of a 4-1 kill lead.
They then shrugged off a triple kill from Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno (Lancelot) in the 6th minute to score back to back 2-0 wipes in the 7th and 9th minutes to maintain control of the match.
The two-time MPL runners-up then executed a superb 5-1 wipe in an 11th minute lord fight to take down two inhibitor turrets followed by a 4-1 exchange in the 13th minute to take Game 1, 1-0.
Echo needed to dig deep in Game 2 as they had to weather an early game Bren storm who established a 5k gold by the 8th minute and took down 5 Echo outer turrets by the 9th minute.
But Echo managed to pick off CJ “Ribo” Ribo (Chou) that touched off a 3-0 wipe in the 12th minute as they strived to equalize on the net worth.
Despite losing all inhibitor turrets, Echo held on and leaned on a Benedict “Bennyqt” Gonzales (Alice) lord steal in the 20th minute to turn the game around and score the sweep.
Bren has to score a sweep in their match against top-ranked Blacklist International tomorrow and hope for an RSG Philippines 0-2 loss to Onic later today to keep their playoff hopes alive.
