Teen lifter Jeaneth Hipolito bags bronze in IWF Youth World meet
Filipino teen lifter Jeaneth Hipolito impressed in the 2021 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth World Championship in Saudi Arabia as she captured a bronze medal in the women's 40-kilogram division.
The 14-year-old Hipolito hoisted 52 kilograms in her third lift to finish third in the snatch category. She also lifted 48kg in her first attempt but failed in the 52kg lift in the second.
Hipolito, a Zamboanga native, lifted 62kg in the clean and jerk but it was not enough for another podium finish. Her tournament performance, though, landed her the fifth overall spot with a final tally of 114.
Turkey's Ezgi Kilic swept the tournament, winning the gold both in the snatch and clean and jerk categories with 125 while Velez Estrada of Colombia settled for silver with a total of 118.
Mexican lifter Colli Canto bagged the overall bronze with a score of 118 as well.
Five more Philippine bets will compete in the contest with Adrian Cristobal and Albert Delos Santos in men’s 61kg B; Rosejean Ramos in women’s 45kg A; Christian Rodriguez in men’s 67kg B; and and Lovely Inan in women’s 49kg A. — LA, GMA News
