Pinoy powerlifters haul in medals in World Classic Powerlifting Championships
Filipino powerlifters have won a total of nine medals in the ongoing World Classic Powerlifting Championships which started on September 23 in Halmstad, Sweden.
On Monday, Veronica Ompod won four gold medals in the 43 kg-women's junior division of the tournament, while Jane Erasmo won four bronzes in the 47 kg-women's sub-junior event.
For the men's division, Agustin Lorenzo bagged a silver in the 74 kg-sub-junior event.
According to a Facebook post of the Powerlifters Association of the Philippines, the female powerlifters arrived just hours before the weigh-in and the tournament, which deprived them of proper rest.
"Circumstances made it difficult to arrange to arrive earlier but the two young lifters still managed to put up a good performance," the association said.
Powerlifter Joyce Reboton is also expected to compete in the tournament.
