Sofia Frank finishes 24th overall in Nebelhorn Trophy
Sofia Frank finished 24th overall in the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany.
The 15-year old Filipina skater got a total score of 128.78 points at the end of the two-part competition on Saturday.
Frank, who performed to the music of 'Romeo and Juliet Wedding Vow' by Abel Korzeniowski, scored 40.50 in the technical score and 44.63 in the program components. However, she had a 4-point deduction which made her total score 81.13 points.
USA's Alysa Liu skated to the top of the said program with 136.54 points, while Poland's Ekaterina Kurakova (132.54) and Belarus' Viktoriia Safonova (128.27) landed in second and third places, respectively.
With the 24th place finish, Frank missed the outright qualification to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Only the top six skaters in the competition will book slots to the Winter Games.
Liu (207.40), Kurakova (193.58), and Safonova (190.29) made it to the top three at the end of the competition. Alexia Paganini (Switzerland), Anastasiia Shabotova (Ukraine), and Josefin Taljegard (Sweden) also made it to the top six.
Despite missing the outright qualification for Beijing, Frank's technical scores in the Nebelhorn Trophy will allow her to join the Four Continents Championship, which is open to non-European member nations of the International Skating Union (ISU).
A minimum technical score of 23.00 in the short program and 40.00 in the free skate is required to join the said tournament.
During the short program, Frank got 25.42 points in the technical score, finishing at 22nd place.
The Four Continents Championship was supposed to be held in January 2022 in Tianjin, China, but it was cancelled due to travel restrictions. The ISU will decide on a new host country by October.
Edrian Celestino, the Philippines' male representative to the competition, finished 18th in the Nebelhorn Trophy. He will also skate in the Four Continents.
