Onic takes win No. 6 in squeaker over Omega
Onic Philippines slipped past Omega Esports, 2-1, to tighten their grip on solo 2nd in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines Season 8 elimination round on Friday.
The two-time MPL finalist now has 18 pts after a 6-3 win-loss card heading into the final 3 weeks of the regular season.
Onic once again relied on macro strategies to deny Omega's winning conditions in Game 1 on the way to an easy 16-minute conquest of the 2021 MLBB Southeast Asian Cup champs.
Kairi "Kairi" Rayosdesol led the way with a 6-1-5 KDA while introducing the core Aulus this season after a game update earlier this week heavily affected the core meta heroes.
With Onic flaunting a dual-marksman line-up in the Game 2 draft, Omega countered with an Aldous pick for Duane " Kelra" Pillas along with James "E2MAX" Caidic's signature Eve as they easily posted a 7-2 kill lead by the 3rd on Kiel VJ "Kielvj" Hernandez' (Bane) 2-02 KDA.
They quickly followed it up with a 3-0 wipe in the gold lane during a 5th minute clash, resulting in a swift 10-minute win for Omega, 1-1.
Both teams then engaged in an epic Game 3 that saw various momentum sways that culminated with a 20th minute luminous lord scramble, where Onic came out on top after a 3-1 take down to secure the luminous lord.
Kairi led the fightback for Onic after Omega controlled majority of the early game, even posting a 13-7 kill lead. He finished with a 7-0-9 KDA with a 100% kill participation.
It was the 5th loss of Omega in their last 6 games to remain 6th with 10 pts.
