Fil-Canadian Leylah Fernandez advances to US Open final

Filipino-Canadian Leylah Fernandez is now a win away from snatching her first Grand Slam title.

The 19-year-old netter overcame Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, in the semifinal round of the 2021 US Open women's singles event early Friday (Manila time).

Fernandez, who was born to an Ecuadorian father and a Filipino mother but is representing Canada, now awaits the winner of the match between Emma Raducanu of Great Britain and Maria Sakkari of Greece to determine who she's facing in the championship round.
