Eduard Folayang falls short against Chinese newcomer at ONE: Battlegrounds II
Former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang suffered his fourth consecutive defeat following a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Zhang Lipeng in the main event of ONE: Battlegrounds II this Friday evening at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Folayang mixed up his punches and kicks that found their mark in the opening minute of the first round. A minute later, Zhang took the fight to the mat where the Chinese asserted his dominance in the grappling department as he threw strikes and looked for a submission.
Folayang landed a hard right hand on top at the start of round two. Zhang responded with a front kick to the face then proceeded to stalk the Filipino. The Chinese scored another takedown, but Folayang managed to weather the storm and force a fight on their feet until the end of the round.
Folayang stuck with his striking in the third and final round while Zhang continued to press the action by utilizing his jab then went on to score another takedown in the final 30 seconds of the non-title bout.
All three judges saw the fight for Zhang after fifteen minutes of action, improving his record to 31-11-2 while the Team Lakay star dropped to 22-12.
It was Zhang's first fight in the promotion while the veteran Folayang has been competing in ONE since 2011.
