Golden girl Hidilyn Diaz yet to decide on Paris 2024 stint

After her success in the Tokyo Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz has yet to come up with a decision on whether she will join the next edition of the Games.

Diaz, who delivered the first-ever Olympic gold medal for the Philippines after she topped the women's 55kg weightlifting event, said she is still in the process of thinking about competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, citing another years of sacrifices and arduous training.

"I am still thinking about it," Diaz said in Filipino during the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday.

"Because of course, there would be an additional three years of sacrifice and training but I will see if my body can still compete and also the coaches, if they can still sacrifice more."

Diaz stressed that she's not getting any younger as she will be 33 years old by the time the Paris Games opens in 2024. But although she and her Team HD have yet to settle her Paris participation, the Zamboanga native said her mindset is always to compete.

But the preparation, she said, is another story.

"At the end of the day, the mindset is always there. And if I observe this year that I can still compete, then I will."

In a previous interview, Diaz said she still has a lot of gas left in the tank as far as representing the Philippines on the international stage is concerned.
