Future looks bright as Carlos Yulo gets highest second vault score in men's vault finals
Carlos Yulo may have missed the podium in the men's vault finals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but the future looks bright for the Filipino gymnast.
Yulo, whose pet event is actually the floor exercise, posted the highest score in the second pass among eight competitors with a 14.866.
His total score, however, was hurt by a penalty in his first pass, where he scored 14.566.
The 21-year-old finished with 14.716, just 0.017 behind bronze medalist Artur Davtyan of Armenia who scored 14.733.
Jeahwan Shin of South Korea (14.783) bagged the gold while Denis Abliazin of Russian Olympic Committee (14.783) took home the silver.
Yulo quickly became a trending topic on Twitter after his fourth place-finish, with Filipinos already cheering him on for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
