Juvic Pagunsan's medal hopes dim after firing 5-over 76 in 3rd round of Olympic golf

With only one round of golf left to play, Juvic Pagunsan's hopes of clinching a medal at the Tokyo Olympics have now become unlikely.

The 43-year-old golfer fired 76, or five-over par, in the third round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men's golf tournament Saturday morning at the Kasumigaseki Country Club.

With his finish, Pagunsan now drops to 55th place, where he is currently tied with Ryan Fox of New Zealand and Mane Udayan S Mane of India.

In the penultimate round, Pagunsan hit 13 pars but bogeyed on the fifth, 11th, 12th,16th, and 17th holes.

Xander Schauffele of the United States is leading the pack at 14-under while hometown bet Hideki Matsuyama is placed in the second spot (-13). Tied in third place at 12-under are Paul Casey of Great Britain and Carlos Ortiz of Mexico.

Pagunsan was impressive in the first round where he fired 66 to tie for fifth place but had shot a 2-over par 73 in the second outing.

He will try to end his maiden Olympic campaign on a high note with a better result on Sunday, August 1, in the fourth round.
