Hidilyn Diaz still doesn't know what to do with all the prizes: That wasn't my motivation
Hidilyn Diaz has been showered with all sorts of prizes after bagging the country's first ever gold medal at the Olympics: millions in cash reward, several properties, and even free airline miles for life.
But in an interview with "24 Oras" hosts Mel Tiangco, Mike Enriquez, and Atom Araullo, Thursday, the star weightlifter said she doesn't know yet what to do with everything she received.
Hidilyn said she is thankful for all the blessings given to her, but she said she was not expecting anything prior to winning the gold.
"Ang gusto ko lang kasi—ako at ng team—ay makamit ang one goal namin which is maidala itong gold medal para sa Pilipinas," she said.
("The only thing I wanted—me and my team—is to achieve our goal which is to bring home the gold medal for the Philippines.")
"Hindi ko alam kung anong gagawin ko [sa prizes] sa ngayon. Sa totoo lang hindi ko pa alam," she added.
("I don't know what I will do [with the prizes] for now. Honestly, I don't know yet.")
Hidilyn said she and her team were so focused and passionate about weightlifting and their quest for the gold that they didn't think about anything else.
"Hindi namin tiningnan 'yung mga [extrinsic] motivation which is 'yung mga awards pero thankful kami doon," she said.
("We didn't look at the [extrinsic] motivation which are the awards but we are thankful for them.")
"Gusto ko lang sabihin na ginagawa po kasi namin ito dahil mahal namin ang Pilipinas at mahal namin ang weightlifting," she added.
("I just want to say that we are doing this because we love the Philippines and love weightlifting.")
Hidilyn made history on Monday after ending the Philippines' 97-year gold medal drought at the Olympic Games.
