Elreen Ando, PH's other weighlifting Olympian, 'inspired' by Hidilyn Diaz' historic gold
Before Elreen Ando takes the Olympic stage herself, the 22-year-old weightlifter got a huge dose of inspiration after Hidilyn Diaz delivered a historic gold medal - the first-ever for the Philippines in the Olympic games.
The young Ando is scheduled to make her Olympic debut tonight in the women's 64-kg category of the weightlifting event, with hopes to duplicate the success Diaz captured on Monday in the 55-kg division.
In a Facebook post Tuesday morning, Ando shared some snaps of her and Diaz and said the 30-year-old veteran fuels her for her own campaign.
"With the Olympic Champion. First Filipino [who] got the gold medal in [the] Olympics," said the post, where Ando was seen holding Diaz' gold medal.
"I feel inspired to compete."
Ando's competition starts at 6:50 p.m. where she will go up against nine competitors in Group A.
