Hidilyn Diaz vows she won't stop after historic Olympic win: 'I still have more to give to the Philippines'
Hidilyn Diaz made history when she won the Philippines' first-ever gold medal in the Olympics.
During a virtual press conference on Tuesday, the Filipina weightlifter said she doesn't know what to expect from this point on, but that she has her sights set on upcoming games.
"Hindi ko alam anong i-e-expect but I will focus on SEA Games, and then may World Championships kami," she said.
["I don't know what to expect, but I will focus on SEA Games, and then we have the World Championships."]
Asked whether she'll strive to join the Paris Olympics in 2024, Diaz said she's eyeing it.
She vowed not to stop working, because she saw for herself that she has the skills.
"Alam kong may ibibigay pa ko sa Pilipinas. Hindi pwedeng after winning, susuko na ako," she said.
["I know I still have more to give to the Philippines. I can't give up after winning."]
Diaz added that she has other goals she wants to achieve more than winning.
"Alam niyo naman I need to still continue inspiring the young generation to still dream... Kailangan tuloy-tuloy hanggang sa may susunod sa akin," she said.

Diaz won the country's first-ever gold medal in the Olympics after winning the women's 55-kg weightlifting event of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Monday at the Tokyo International Forum.
Her historic win ended a near century-long Olympic gold medal drought since the Philippines first competed in the games in 1924.
This is Diaz's fourth consecutive Olympic appearance. In 2016, she won silver. —JCB, GMA News
