At least P33-M cash reward awaits Hidilyn Diaz after winning historic Olympic gold

At least P33 million cash reward awaits Hidilyn Diaz after her historic gold medal performance in the Tokyo Olympics.

According to Republic Act 10699, Olympic gold medalists will receive P10 million for those who competed in individual events.

The MVP Sports Foundation also pledged to give an additional P10 million for the gold medal winner.

"This is the tournament of tournaments. We want to showcase what Filipino talent can do. We want to show the world that we can compete," MVP Sports Foundation chairman Manny V. Pangilinan said in a previous statement.

Philippine Olympic Committee and Rep. Abraham Tolentino also said in a Philippine Sportswriters Association forum that business tycoon Ramon S. Ang will give P10 million for every gold in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Athlete, sports patron, and Rep. Mikee Romero also pledged P3 million for the gold medal winners in Tokyo.

Aside from cash, Tolentino said Hidilyn is also set to receive a house and lot in Tagaytay and a van from Foton.

Property developer Megaworld also pledged a condominium unit in Eastwood City for the star lifter.

Diaz won the Philippines' first Olympic gold on Monday after ruling the women's 55-kg weightlifting event.

A silver medalist in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Diaz experienced financial woes while preparing for the Tokyo Games and mulled over asking for assistance from the private sector.
