Margielyn Didal barges into Olympic street skate finals
Skateboarder Margielyn Didal impressed in the inaugural appearance of the sport at the Olympics as she entered the finals of the women's skateboarding street event on Monday morning at the Ariake Park Skateboarding.
The Filipina Olympian placed seventh at the end of all four heats to punch a ticket into the finals of the event. Only the top 8 skaters after all the heats qualified into the final round.
Didal garnered a total score of 12.02, with 9.25 coming from tricks and 2.77 on her second run, in Heat 2 of the event. Didal, who ranks No. 17 in the world, sat in third place after her heat.
Though she slipped down slightly after the following heats, it was still enough to advance.
The finals are slated for later today.
