Mikee Cojuangco attends 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony
International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board member Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski has attended the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony.
On Saturday, the Asian Games gold medalist and champion equestrienne shared a photo of herself holding up the Philippine flag during the ceremony.
“Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together,” she wrote on Instagram.
Meanwhile, her sister Mai Cojuangco shared how proud she was of Mikee.
“That’s my sister, Mikee, who I am so proud of. She is the first Asian woman in history elected into the IOC executive board, and is currently in Tokyo attending the Olympics,” said Mai.
“How she balances family and work life, among other things, has always been an inspiration to me. Love you and so excited to see you in a few days,” she added.
In July 2020, Mikee was elected to the IOC executive board, the highest decision-making body of the world Olympic body in Lausanne, Switzerland, and will be serving a five-year term.
Mikee, a 2002 Asian Games and 2005 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, has served as the Philippines’ IOC representative since 2013.
Daughter of former Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., Mikee graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has held key posts in several IOC commissions, such as Coordination for the Games of the 32nd Olympiad Tokyo 2020 (2014 to present); Women and Sport (2014-2015); Olympic Channel (2015 to present), Communications (2015 to present), and Olympic Education (2015 to present). – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
