Alex Eala advances to singles, doubles 2nd round in juniors tilt ahead of Wimbledon
Alex Eala is looking all ready for her looming debut in Wimbledon this month.
The Filipina teen tennis ace made quick work of Darja Vidmanova of Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round of Junior International Roehampton in London on Thursday (Manila time).
The victory came just days before Eala, 16, steps for the first time on the grass courts of Wimbledon, which kicks off on July 5.
She will next clash with the 18-year-old Matilde Paoletti of Italy in the second round.
Eala is hoping to emerge successful in the Wimbledon following her historic feat in the 2021 French Open Juniors, where she and Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva scooped the girls' doubles title.
Meanwhile, she reunited with Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho, whom she partnered with to win the 2020 Australian Open Juniors doubles title, in the J1 doubles category.
The charismatic duo edged the tandem of Germany's Nicole Rivkin and Hanne Vandewinkel of Belgium, 7-6, 7-5, to advance to the next round of the girls doubles event.
They will next face Barbora Palicova of Czech Republic and Radka Zelnickova of Slovakia.
