Sprinter Kristina Knott qualifies for Tokyo Olympics
Kristina Knott has sprinted her way to this year's Tokyo Olympics.
The Filipino-American track star has qualified to the
Summer Games through the universality rule and will see action in the women's 200m sprint event.
Her qualification hikes the country's contingent to the quadrennial meet to 15 with judoka Kiyomi Watanabe formalizing her entry earlier on Wednesday.
They would join EJ Obiena (pole vault), Carlos Yulo (gymnastics), Hidilyn Diaz and Elreen Ando (weightlifting), Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Carlo Paalam and Nesthy Petecio (boxing), Criz Nievarez (rowing), Kurt Barbosa (taekwondo), Margielyn Didal (skateboarding), Jayson Valdez (shooting), and Juvic Pagunsan (golf).
The 25-year-old Knott is one of the successful sprinters in the country.
She bagged the gold medal in the 200m event in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and the 4x100m mixed relay. She also she won a pair of silver medals in the 100m and 4x100m relay.
Knott has been training relentlessly in the United States where she joined a number of competitions in her bid to improve her time ahead of the Olympics.
