San Beda rules NCAA Season 96 poomsae men's division

San Beda University showed no signs of rust as Red Lions' taekwondo jin Alfritz Arevalo ruled the opening day of the NCAA Season 96 with the dominance of poomsae standard men's division.

Arevalo, a national team member, scored a total of 7.217 points to finish in first place while College of St. Benilde's Ivan Murray Solimen placed second with 7.134 and Roi Vinson Belano of host Letran came third with 7.083.

Christian Dave Tayrus of the Arellano University wound up in fourth place with 6.617 points followed by San Sebastian's John Harold Estoy (6.417) and Jose Rizal University's Mikko Jeremi Bataoil (6.284) in fifth and sixth places, respectively.

Jake Aldrin Ramos of Lyceum and Ralph Laurenz Gasco of EAC, meanwhile, finished last with 6.150 and 6.033 points, respectively.

Arevalo dedicated his big win to God and everyone who has supported him throughout this unprecedented journey amid the pandemic.

"Big thanks to everyone who supported the athletes, especially us. And huge thanks also to my coaches and teammates," Arevalo, who hails from Baguio, said.

The women's division will be staged tomorrow on the second day of the official return of NCAA.
