Junna Tsukii bags gold medal in Lisbon tournament


Filipino-Japanese karateka Junna Tsukii bagged a gold medal in the World Karate Federation Premier League in Lisbon, Portugal on Sunday.

Tsukii topped the female kumite -50kg category after defeating Kazakhstan's Zhangbyrbay Moldir, who settled for silver.

Japan's Miho Miyahara and France's Alexandra Recchia tied for third place.

"Look at my first gold medal on the world calibre stage," Tsukii wrote on Facebook. "I would like to thank everyone who has supported me to this point. This medal is for you."

Tsukii, who is hoping to represent the Philippines in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, also won gold in a Serbian tournament in March. 

She won a gold medal in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held on home soil.
