Eddie Alvarez dropped, loses to Ok Rae Yoon at ONE on TNT IV
Former Bellator and UFC lightweight world champion Eddie Alvarez suffered another setback in ONE Championship following a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Ok Rae Yoon in the co-main event of ONE on TNT IV this Thursday in Singapore.
Alvarez mixed it up by going for an ankle pick after a few exchanges of strikes in the opening round. Ok got back to his feet, dropped Alvarez with a right hand then followed up with vicious ground and pound. Alvarez survived the onslaught but was still wobbly when he got back on his stool.
Alvarez somehow recovered in round two then proceeded to push the pace against the Korean. Instead of striking, Alvarez wanted to take the fight on the mat as he shot twice for a takedown but was unable to take it to the ground.
Ok seemed exhausted as they entered the final round. He stunned Alvarez yet again with a right straight but was unable to go for the kill. Alvarez nevertheless kept pressing, throwing strikes matched with several takedown attempts.
All three judges saw the fight for Ok after three rounds, improving his record to 15-3. Alvarez, whose disqualification loss last April 7 got overturned, dropped his record to 30-8. – RC, GMA News
