The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) said they will earmark a part of their budget for the vaccination of the league's student-athletes and officials.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran's Fr. Vic Calvo, NCAA Management Committee chair, did not divulge the specifics of the budget for the vaccines, but he said they are currently in talks with Unilab regarding the possible purchase of the coronavirus vaccine Covovax. Unilab is the distributor of the vaccine brand in the Philippines.
"We will order vaccines for all the schools for tournaments like volleyball and basketball, at least if it's available," Calvo, in a mix of English and Filipino, said on Tuesday in a virtual forum with the Philippine Sportswriters Association.
Calvo said they might also conduct a vaccine information campaign to educate the student-athletes on the importance of the anti-COVID-19 jabs.
The Philippines on Monday said it aims to purchase millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines from at least seven manufacturers.
Earlier, Calvo also said the league targets to open its 96th season by the first week of May.
