Julian Macaraeg to represent Philippines in World Short Track Speed Skating Championships

Julian Macaraeg will fly the Philippine flag in the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships this weekend.

The skater has arrived in Dordrecht, Netherlands for the competition, which will be held from March 5 to March 7.

A photo posted by the Philippine Skating Union on Facebook showed Macaraeg in the venue on Thursday, proudly wearing a Team Philippines jacket.

He is the lone Filipino delegate in the short track speed skating championships.

Prior to this, the 17-year-old became the first Filipino to compete in the Winter Youth Olympics short track speed skating event.

He is one of the two Filipino delegates in the Games held in Lausanne, Switzerland back in 2020, together with Filipino-American Alpine skier Ana Wahleithner.

Macaraeg capped off his campaign in Lausanne with a quarterfinals appearance in the 500-meter category.

The New York-based skater said last year that Lausanne was the "biggest race of his life." He also considered Tokyo Olympics-bound gymnast Carlos Yulo as one of his inspirations.
