Margielyn Didal named Asia Skater of The Year
Southeast Asian Games and Asian Games gold medalist Margielyn Didal was named the first “Women’s Asia Skater of the Year” at Asia Skateboarding Awards 2020.
The winners were announced on Wednesday by The Skateboarding Social on Instagram.
As Asia’s woman skater of the year, Didal will take home USD 1,500 or PHP 72,000, plus another USD 300 for also bagging the Fastest Feet in the East and The Style For Miles awards.
She beat seven other candidates, including fellow Filipino Cindy Lou Serna. The other nominees hailed from China, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan.
Meanwhile, three other Filipinos, namely Mak Feliciano, Daryl Dominguez, and Daniel Ledermann, were nominated for the Men’s Asia Skater of the Year award. However, Japan’s Shin Sanbongi took home the prize.
One of TIME Magazine’s 25 most influential teens in 2018, Didal is poised to represent the country at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where skateboarding will make its Olympic debut. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
