Alex Eala advances to W15 Manacor quarters

Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala advanced to the quarterfinals of the third leg of the W15 ITF Manacor Tournament early Friday (Manila time).

Eala defeated German Silvia Ambrosio in the second round 7-6(3), 1-6, 6-3.

With the win, Eala will face Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva in the quarters. Selekhmeteva beat Denmark's Olga Helmi, 6-4, 7-5.

Prior to this match, Eala won straight sets against Spanish player Ana Lantigua de la Nuez in the first round.

This will be Eala's third quarter finals appearance in the Manacor tournament. Eala won her first professional title in the first leg, while she reached the quarters in the second leg.

The 15-year old tennister is currently at the third spot in ITF juniors and no. 942 in the WTA rankings.

Last year, Eala won the Australian Open Juniors doubles title and reached the semis in the French Open Juniors. -- BAP, GMA News
