Alex Eala takes straight sets win in W15 Manacor first round


Alex Eala cruised to a straight sets victory against Ana Lantigua de la Nuez, 6-0, 6-2, in the opening round of W15 ITF Manacor Tournament on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old Filipina was in top form as she needed only one hour and 27 minutes to finish off the 20-year-old Spaniard.

With the win, she advances to the second round and awaits the winner of the match between no. 1 seed Margot Yerolymos of France and Silvia Ambrosio of Germany.

Eala bagged her first professional title in the first leg of the tournament and reached the quarterfinals in the second leg.

The teen, who attends the Rafa Nadal Academy in Spain, is currently no. 3 in the ITF juniors and no. 942 in the WTA rankings.

Eala won the Australian Open Juniors doubles title and reached the singles semifinals in the French Open Juniors last year.
