Geje Eustaquio satisfied with latest win, wanted to finish South Korean foe

Former ONE flyweight world champion Geje Eustaquio is happy with his latest win but feels that he could have done better inside the cage.

The Team Lakay star bagged his second consecutive victory with a unanimous decision nod over South Korea's Song Min Jong on Friday in the co-main event of ONE: Inside the Matrix at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

"As much as I wanted to finish the fight, we got a unanimous decision, and we didn't expect things to happen that way. Song Min Jong was very strong," said Eustaquio.

"My wrist hurt from striking him too much, and he was very durable. He really wanted to reach the end, and he had strong willpower," he added.

Vintage Eustaquio showed up on fight night as he landed a wide array of strikes on Song and even attempted to snatch the win with a submission. But the Filipino was not totally satisfied with his performance, citing he needed a more decisive finish to the contest.

"I'm satisfied with my performance, but I also wanted to give the fans an impressive finish," he said. "At this level, it's very hard. I did my best. I have the best coach on my side and we had a good training camp for this fight."

The performance would most likely land Eustaquio back in the top 5 official rankings of ONE Championship where he will join his teammate Danny Kingad and the man touted by many as the GOAT of MMA, Demetrious Johnson.

Knowing all too well that the level of competition is not getting easier, Eustaquio says he plans to get back to the grind right away to further sharpen his arsenal.

"The next thing I need to do is get back in the gym immediately and train again," he said. —MGP, GMA News
