Alex Eala ends French Open Juniors campaign after semis loss vs Elsa Jacquemot
Alex Eala ended her French Open Juniors campaign in the semifinals after suffering a 6-3, 6-2 defeat against Elsa Jacquemot of France on Friday.
Eala, seeded no. 2 in the tournament, dropped the first set after her serve was broken twice by the no. 3 seed and home favorite.
The 15-year-old Filipina broke Jacquemot's serve twice in the second set, but she could not hold her own service games against the 17-year-old Frenchwoman.
Jacquemot will play Russia's Alina Charaeva, who ousted no. 1 seed Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the second round, in the title match on Saturday.
Eala advanced to the best four after a gritty win over Linda Noskova of Czech Republic in the quarterfinals.
She survived back-to-back three-setters against Mara Guth of Germany and Leyre Romero Gormaz of Spain in the second and third round.
The juniors world no. 4 also saw action in doubles, but she and partner Elvina Kalieva of the United States lost in their first match.
Earlier in the year, she won the Australian Open juniors doubles title with Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho.
Eala, who attends the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain, is the only Asian in the Roland Garros girls' singles draw. —MGP, GMA News
