Alex Eala books quarterfinals spot in French Open Juniors

Alex Eala carved a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory against Leyre Romero Gormaz of Spain to book a quarterfinals spot in the French Open Juniors on Wednesday.

The 15-year-old Filipina dropped the second set after losing only one game in the opener, but she reasserted her dominance in the decider.

Seeded no. 2 in the tournament, Eala will next face Linda Noskova of Czech Republic.

In the first round, the junior world no. 4 beat Natalia Szabanin of Hungary in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

She survived a challenge from Mara Guth of Germany in the second round, winning 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 after a rain delay.

Earlier in the year, Eala won the Australian Open juniors doubles title with Indonesian partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho. —MGP, GMA News
